Construction Update:
Phase 3
Phase 3 consists of construction of a new gymnasium building, which will be called The Event Center, partial demolition and remodeling of the existing theater building, construction of a new portion of the theater building, fire alarm and clock/speaker system upgrades for the Administration, Gymnasium, Technology, Science, Commons, and Music buildings. New quad fencing and gates are being installed. Also included is the painting of the exteriors of the technology, science, and commons buildings and new signage for all buildings.
Theater: Rough electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems have been installed. The roofing systems have been installed. Sheetrock has been taped in the lobby and backstage rooms. Exterior stucco is complete. Exterior stairs are being placed and doors and windows are being installed. The stage has been poured. Still to come: pull wiring, sheetrock the theater, install wood wall slats, paint, install stage floor, install seating, and install lighting and sound systems. Various subcontractor issues have delayed the completion of this building. This theater is scheduled to be complete in late December 2009.
The Event Center: The exterior walls have been lathed in preparation of plaster. The roofs are complete. The exterior paving is complete. Rough electrical and plumbing systems are being installed. Windows are complete and doors are being hung. Large HVAC mechanical units have been placed. Basketball steel is being installed. Mat hoists need to be hung. All finishes will come after that. Various contractor issues have delayed the planned completion date of this building. This Event Center is now planned for District use in January 2010.
Phase 3B
Phase 3B consists of upgrades to the existing gymnasium. The building will be brought up to current accessibility requirements. Three wheelchair lifts will be installed. Door ramps will be redone. Most doors will be replaced. Air conditioning will be installed. Bleachers will be removed and one new set will be installed. A wall will be built between the upper and lower gyms. The upper gym will become a dance/yoga/aerobics/wrestling room. The roof will be replaced and the building exterior will be painted. New gym floors will be installed. A sports medicine complex will be built within the building. Portables will be installed in the parking lot behind the Main 3-story building for the coaches and female PE teachers, along with showers and locker rooms for the girls and team rooms for boys and girls sports. These portables will be in place for about a year while the gym is being reworked. The contractor will use the parking lot in front of the pool for their lay down space during construction. The start of this project is contingent upon the Phase 3 contractor finishing their work on the Event Center. We anticipate the existing gymnasium will be complete and ready to occupy in December 2010. This job was bid on October 27, 2009. Sausal Corporation was the low bidder and it’s expected that the Board of Education will approve the award of a contract to them at the November 10th meeting.
The current construction taking place around the three-story main building is preparation work for the portables that will be placed in November. Underground services for power, data, water, and sewer are being provided. These portables will be used beginning January 4, 2010.
