DVC/Community College

The California Community College system has over 100 campuses with Diablo Valley College (DVC) with campuses in Pleasant Hill and San Ramon being the closest for students from the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. All campuses offer courses that prepare students to transfer to a four-year college or career training programs that vary according to the needs of the community.

Senior Presentation

DVC came to Cal High on February 20 and shared information with graduating seniors about the registration process for the summer and fall terms. To view that slide presentation, click here.

How to Register

Graduating seniors must complete TWO applications. First for Spring Semester 2020 as a concurrent high school student and also as a First-Time College Student for Summer 2020 (even if you don't plan to take a summer class). The Spring Semester application is so you can complete the COUN 095 -an academic planning class needed so you get priority registration to sign up for your classes on May 9th --you REALLY want this!!

For a video with full and detailed instructions on how to register for DVC, click here

Even if you have applied to four-year universities and are thinking about DVC as a back up plan,  you should register now so that if you do end up attending to DVC, you will be registered and ready to go in the fall -you will just want to go in and drop your courses if you decided not to attend DVC.

First Time + Full Time = FREE Tuition

Considering the cost of going to college, a student can save money by beginning at a community college and then transferring to a four year college to complete a degree.

Contra Costa Community College District (4CD) is invested in your success! The "First Time + Full Time = Free Tuition" (FT3) program offers free tuition for eligible students. Students who qualify may receive free tuition for their first two academic years of college (fall and spring terms only).

Here's how it works:

  • Be a first-time college student (even if you took a college class in high school, you are still considered "first time" if you just graduated from high school)

  • Enroll in a minimum of 12 units

  • Be a California resident or otherwise exempt from paying non-resident tuition fees (e.g. AB540)

  • Complete the FT3 Promise Program Pledge

  • Complete the Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act application

  • To maintain eligibility for future terms, students must complete a minimum of 12 units per term with a GPA of 2.0 or higher

Your award will be applied to your account after the end of each academic term (fall and spring terms only) and your tuition fees will be reimbursed to you.

Once you have successfully completed your first term as an FT3 student, we will automatically enroll you in the program again for following term. As long as you meet the above requirements each term, you will remain an FT3 student and receive free tuition through the end of your second academic year of college (four consecutive terms for students who start in the fall term, and three consecutive terms for spring start students).

First Year Experience at DVC

DVC offers a First Year Experience Program (FYE) for first-time college students. The program consists of 5 learning communities: Allied Health, Business, Communication, Psychology, and STEM.

Some of the FYE program benefits are:

  • guaranteed spots in all FYE classes once accepted into the program
  • learn about campus resources and support services
  • explore major and career pathways
  • set goals and create and educational plan
  • gain confidence and get on track to graduate
  • build lasting friendships at DVC

See the DVC - First Time Experience page for more information on the program and how to apply.
